Peace
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. - John 14:27
It seems fear and anxiety have the ability to hijack our emotional well being. Just a few minutes of watching the nightly news or perusing social media can drive us into a state of panic. We are all so connected through technology. At times, it seems impossible to get away.
Jesus tells us that we are to have peace and that peace is in Him. One of my favorite scripture verses is Joshua 1:9. In those times when fear and anxiety have crept into my mind, I have always found comfort in the verse. It says, "Have I not commanded you? Be STRONG and COURAGEOUS. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." I have always appreciated the question that starts off the verse and the statement that follows. We are COMMANDED, it is an expectation for us to be strong and filled with courage.
In John 14:27 this is reinforced by what Jesus says. He tells us that we are to be peaceful. This peace is only available through surrender and trust in Jesus. The world should not define our hearts and we should not be afraid. Rather, be filled with strength and courage because God is ALWAYS with us.
Be blessed and be a blessing,
Matt
