The Crosswalk

This morning while I was driving Abby to school, we got to witness a wonderful event. We were at a pretty busy intersection on the way to the bus stop. There is a school on the corner, so they wisely station crossing guards to help the kids safely cross.  Of course, the crossing guards are there for the kids, but they often help adults safely cross the road.

This morning we saw a woman, who the crossing guards help each morning, bless the guards. She was walking from a side of the street with a fast food restaurant that serves breakfast. As she crossed the first road, she handed the guard a bag from the restaurant. His face lit up with happiness.

She stood with him as she waited to cross the other street. As the lights changed, she crossed the road with the help of the guards. As she passed the second guard, she handed him a bag, as well. I couldn't see his face because the light change meant I had to drive. However, I am sure he was filled with gratitude.

Not only did this lady bless the crossing guards, she blessed Abby and I as we got to witness her generous actions. There is no doubt her gratitude moved her to honor those who selflessly served her. It was beautiful.

Hebrews 13:16 says, “And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” The actions of the woman this morning with the crossing guards reminds me that not only do these actions bring joy to those being blessed, but more importantly they please God. A small sacrifice by her resulted with a huge impact.

Be blessed and be a blessing,
Matt
