Believe and Seek

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. - Hebrews 11:6 NIV

This is a part of the letter to the Hebrews where the author is tracing faith through history. He defines faith in the opening verse. In Hebrews 11:1, "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see."

The audience of this letter is Jewish. They are people who have lived under the law for centuries. I think they have lived under the law long enough that they have lost sight of faith in their religion. They may have forgotten about her faith of Abraham or Moses or Noah.

In our "answers now" society, we have access to almost all answers within our phones. We don't have to wonder or be comfortable in the unknown. I feel like we're losing our ability to have faith. We are so hungry for evidence and proof, our ability to believe is negatively impacted.

Yet faith remains the central focus of our God. Faith that He is who He says He is. Faith that Jesus is the Son. Faith that His death paid the price for the things I have done and will do to drive a wedge between myself and God. Faith that the cross covers that wedge and death is defeated restores our profound relationship with our Maker.

Faith is central to believing. Belief drives us to seek Him. So, be comfortable in what you do not see. Believe and seek Him.

Be blessed and be a blessing,
Matt
