Barabbas

Last Sunday, Pastor Cameron preached an outstanding message about Barabbas and Jesus. I loved how he shared the meaning of Barabbas’ name and the fact that both Barabbas and Jesus were “sons of the father”. I’m awestruck by the imagery of me as Barabbas.

In a powerful moment, Cameron invited us to give whatever is burdening us to God. He wanted us to do something symbolic and very real with the things that hold us captive. The act of writing down the things that hold us down on the sticky note was powerful. In identifying a chain, we acknowledged what keeps us from truly living. As we walked to the cross, we demonstrated our need for Jesus. Placing the sticky note on the cross shows our submission to Jesus as our Savior. Walking away demonstrates our trust in His mercy.

We are powerless to break these chains on our own. Only with Jesus can any chain that binds us be broken. When we lay these burdens at the foot of the cross we experience freedom in Christ. We are no longer slaves.

Galatians 5:1 - It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

Be blessed and be a blessing,
Matt
