Go and Make
This week we started a series at Westside titled "Show Love Month". The series runs right up to Easter and is based on the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20). It is Jesus' words to His closest followers before ascending to heaven.
I think of it as synonymous to the coach's words he shares with the team before they go out to play the game. By game time, the coach has done all of the preparation and planning to get the team ready for the test. He taught them what to do and how to do it. It's game time and the team's time to execute and demonstrate the fruits of preparation.
Jesus says "Go and make disciples." He has equipped us. He has prepared us. In His letter to the Romans Paul says, "In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans." (Romans 8:26) He has given us the Holy Spirit to guide and assist us.
It is now time for us to "go and make." Whatever it is that makes you sick to your stomach or clinch your fist, that's where the Holy Spirit is calling you to show love. Are you willing to GO?
