Hope in You
Who then will harm you if you are devoted to what is good? But even if you should suffer for righteousness, you are blessed. Do not fear them, or be intimidated, but in your hearts regard Christ the Lord as holy, ready at any time to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you. 1 Peter 3:13-16
Our perspective must shift when we accept Jesus as Lord. We are no longer simply physical beings. Through Christ and the seal of the Holy Spirit, we become connected to the eternal.
The things of this world, like pain and fear, seem very real to us, especially as we experience them. There is an intrinsic response our bodies have to these emotions. Our heart may start racing, we may begin to sweat, and a million thoughts may run through our heads. Peter is encouraging us to shift our perspective. He wants us to remember who’s we are and who God is. God is the creator of all. He has called us His!
Jesus is Lord of all! He is set apart from all creation and because of his sovereignty we too are set apart. Intimidation, fear, pain, anxiety, and other emotions are powerless to our Lord. In His victory we are victorious. In His victory, we are no longer simply physical beings, but we enter into eternal life. In this we have hope, even in the face of harm.
Find your identity not in the external experiences of this world but in the eternal God who has sealed you with His Spirit. He lives in you. Eternity lives in you.
Be Blessed and Be a Blessing,
Matt
