All Dead

I think we lose sight of the completed work on the cross. What I mean, is we don’t fully comprehend the totality of the work Jesus did for us. In his death all of our debts were paid in full. There is not one outstanding debt in all of eternity which wasn’t paid for by Jesus.

We often act like there is still work to be done. Like we have to do something special to receive the rest of this salvation. Like the work on the cross was somehow incomplete.

There is a scene in the movie “The Princess Bride” where the character played by Billy Crystal evaluates a guy who seems to be dead and says, “Your friend here is only mostly dead. There is a big difference between mostly dead and all dead.” Let me assure you, Jesus was “all dead”. Fully paying the price for all of your sins, and my sins, and the neighbors sins, and the other neighbors sins, and your friends sins, and your friends grandparents sins, and on and on and on.

It is because of the completeness of the cross that we are moved to live differently. In one moment of surrender and repentance we receive the totality of the forgiveness of the cross. Because of that truth we live differently to show love and God to the world.

Be blessed and be a blessing,
Matt
