7th Day

What if one of the most powerful spiritual disciplines available to us is something we have nearly forgotten how to do? Rest, true and purposeful Sabbath, is not a suggestion tucked away in an ancient text. It is woven into the very fabric of creation itself. From the opening chapters of Genesis, we see that after completing the heavens and the earth, God rested on the seventh day and made it holy, setting it apart from all other days. This was not because God was tired. He is all-powerful and all-knowing. It was because he was showing us something essential about how life is meant to be lived. The rhythm of six days of work followed by one day of deliberate rest is not a cultural relic. It is the original design. When we skip Sabbath, we are not just missing a break. We are stepping outside the creative order God established for our flourishing. The Ten Commandments reinforce this, calling us to remember the Sabbath and keep it holy, a moral instruction tied directly back to creation. The message is clear: we were made to work, and we were made to rest. The question is whether we are willing to reclaim what was always meant to be ours.
